Work packages

Click to enlargeThe SADA project is divided into work packages (WP), each under the responsibility of different consortium partners. The individual work packages build on each other’s content. The image shows an overview of the project and the activities it involves.

 


WP0 Project Management
Efficient management structures and processes are essential to get a project off the ground efficiently, implement it correctly, and achieve the project objectives with high-quality results. This work package comprises all activities relating to administrative project coordination and technical coordination. Siemens AG is in charge of this work package.

WP1 Requirements
This work package involves defining, at the start of the project, the requirements and expectations of the various participants with regard to the project outcome. Expectations of subsequently developed markets are defined and discussions with potential customers shape the image of the future product at a concept level. Siemens AG is in charge of this work package.

WP2 Architecture
Consensus and a sound shared understanding of the overall architecture are the preconditions for ensuring that all components work together effectively and efficiently. The objective of this work package is to achieve these preconditions within the consortium and to elaborate the necessary strategies, details, and documentation of all aspects of the architecture. Siemens AG is in charge of this work package.

WP3 Communication
The state of the art is used as the basis for selecting and specifying the vehicle’s communications structure, with regard to sensor data fusion in particular. An appropriate network topology is developed for broadband communication between highly integrated processing units within the vehicle (in-car) and also from the car (Car-2-X). The connection and the way that the vehicle works together with its environment are also elaborated. NXP is in charge of this work package.

WP4 Implementation Platform
This work package involves making the implementation platform available. It comprises the hardware, communications channels, an operating system, and a run-time environment (RTE). A backend for data management and data switching is also being developed, together with communication between the backend, mobile units, and the vehicle. The key requirements of the implementation platform are variable processing power and communication, together with modularity and flexibility. fortiss is in charge of this work package.

WP5 Description at a Semantic Level
The objective of this work package is to develop the principles for an easy-to-follow description of the relevant properties of the usable resources overall. This involves preparing a suitable description of the components relevant to the demonstrator and providing inference methods that will form a basis for automatic configuration. Siemens AG is in charge of this work package.

WP6 Fusion Model
The objective of this work package is to create tools (specifically software libraries or applications) for the highly automated creation of fusion models from configuration or description data that can be used directly by the fusion algorithms in WP7. BASELABS is in charge of this work package.

WP7 Data Fusion
The basic objective of the Data Fusion work package is to develop and implement the methods that will enable raw sensor data to be connected to the associated metadata within the system. This work package involves developing a series of generic fusion algorithms that will allow the transition from a data-dense environment at the sensor level to an information-dense environment, that is, at the status level. Other goals include investigating problems that may arise through abstraction involving the multi-sensor system. This may include algorithms for data association and correlation or information-based and probability-based interpretation of heterogeneous signals. fortiss is in charge of this work package.

WP8 Demonstrator
This work package involves developing a demonstrator for the project results based on existing vehicles. This will entail the definition of appropriate demonstration scenarios at the start of the project and the development and integration of applications into a trial medium. Appropriate criteria will be established to assess the extent to which the objectives have been achieved, and this process will be continuously monitored throughout the project. Siemens AG is in charge of this work package.

WP9 Public Relations
The purpose of this work package is to present the results of the project to the wider community, to coordinate project activities with the accompanying research, and conduct intensive exchanges with partner projects whose research focus is on ICT for electromobility II. There will also be exchanges with prospective partners in the automobile and supply industries. Siemens AG is in charge of this work package.
